Bible Prophecy:  When Will Jesus Return?

The prophecy and hope that Jesus gave his followers should educate and encourage us today.  “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light.  The stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will then see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.  Then he will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.”  Matthew 24:29-31

Why Study End Times Events?

Many people ask, “Why should we study the end times timeline and events?” Unfortunately, many make excuses why they do not think studying end times prophecies are important.  Some have been misled to believe that as a Christian, they won’t be here so why bother studying (according to the false pre-tribulation rapture theory). Others say that it is too difficult to understand, so they don’t ever try studying what has been written. And still others say that it is not a salvation issue.

The two main reason we must understand end times events is so that we can endure and not be deceived, and so that we can pass it onto the next generation in case we are not there at the end. Tragically if we do not accurately pass on what has been revealed, future generations will have little hope of standing firm unto the end, and most likely they will be deceived by the final antichrist.

Immediately After the Great Tribulation

It is clear even from these few prophetic verses that Jesus will come AFTER the Great Tribulation.  “Immediately after” means instantaneously, without any lapse of time.  Similarly, it denotes a complete absence of delay.  Therefore, there will be great signs in the heavens and then Jesus will not delay.  Finally, straightway he will make his grand appearing through the clouds with a loud trumpet and with his angels.  They dead in Christ will be resurrected to immortality.

“Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”  ~ Jesus’ Disciples  (Matthew 24:3)

“Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.“   (Revelation 1:3)
